About Bribie Island | Island Breeze Resort

A little of Bribie Island..

Bribie Island offers nature lovers all of its beauty of the island and its many untouched national parks. The area is also popular with residents who are seeking a sea change lifestyle, enjoying the surrounds of the ocean, boating and open water. Protected by Environmental, National and Marine Parks, 86% of Bribie Island will remain unchanged, ensuring the natural beauty will remain for future generations to enjoy. Bribie Island is a true showpiece or the Moreton Bay area, but now is enjoying its own identity, growing in popularity for visitors and residents alike.

Bushwalking, bike riding and birdwatching are popular island activities for those nature lovers. Bike paths run from one side of the island to the other and the Bicentennial Bushwalk Tracks are found on the island. Some 350 species of migratory birds and wading birds can be found on Bribie Island.

The ecologically important Pumicestone Passage, formed by the channel which runs between Bribie Island and the Caboolture coastline, is a protected marine park and safe haven for dugongs, turtles, dolphins, and a diverse birdlife and extensive network of mangrove swamps. The Bribie Island Ferryman offers excellent tours of the Passage with fascinating commentary along the way.

It's no surprise that fresh seafood is a staple and favourite on the menus of Bribie Island's restaurants. A fabulous seafood meal coupled with the views out across the Pacific Ocean or inland to the beautiful Glass House Mountains make Bribie Island a lovely spot for celebrating special occasions.

Bribie Island is also rich in social and military history. The early explorers passed through the area, and Fort Bribie was established during World War II by army and navy authorities to protect the entrance to Brisbane. World War II gun emplacements are still standing today, dotted throughout the surfside of the island.

Art lovers can visit the Caboolture Shire Community Arts Centre at Banksia Beach which has regular exhibitions of arts and crafts, and several workshops on premises from which the resident artists and craftsmen create their works.

Being only one of two Queensland islands connected to the mainland by bridge, Bribie Island is accessible to all and only 45 minutes from Brisbane Airport and just over an hour's drive to the Brisbane CBD.
